I wonder what KT Tunstall + Kendrick Lamar could create together.

Today I took up painting. Picked out some Oil Paint. And just painted. This is the perfect album to get your creative juices flowing.

10.26.2012

Soundtrack | 10.26.12 | Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst

Tonight was my first listen to the highly acclaimed "Good Kid, m.A.A.d city" and it's left me speechless. Kendrick Lamar is truly talented and it's going to be interesting to see if he can consistently put out powerful poetry called rap music.

Album of the year. hands up high. poetry. sensual. romantic. if i told you a flower bloomed in a dark room would you trust it. show you off. janet jackson. anytime and place. But I can never right my wrongs unless I write them down for real. punctuation curve(,). metaphor. love is not just a verb. put it in a song. i mean you need to hear this.

[Intro]
Every second, every minute, man I swear that she can get it
Say if you a bad bitch put your hands up high, hands up high, hands up high
Tell 'em dim the lights down right now, put me in the mood
I'm talking 'bout dark room, perfume
Go, go!

[Verse 1: Kendrick Lamar]
I recognize your fragrance (hol' up!)
You ain't never gotta say shit (woo!)
And I know your taste is
A little bit (mmm) high maintenance (ooh)
Everybody else basic
You live life on an everyday basis
With poetic justice, poetic justice
If I told you that a flower bloomed in a dark room, would you trust it?
I mean I write poems in these songs dedicated to you when
You're in the mood for empathy, theres blood in my pen
Better yet, where your friends and them?
I really wanna know you all
I really wanna show you off
Fuck that, pour up plenty of champagne
Cold nights when you curse this name
You called up your girlfriends and
Y'all curled in that little bitty Range I heard that
She wanna go and party, she wanna go and party
Nigga don't approach her with that Atari
Nigga that ain't good game, homie, sorry
They say conversation rule a nation, I can tell
But I could never right my wrongs
'less I write it down for real, P.S

[Hook x2: Kendrick Lamar]
You can get it, you can get it
You can get it, you can get it
And I know just, know just, know just, know just, know just what you want
Poetic justice, put it in a song

[Verse 2: Drake]
I really hope you play this
Cause ol' girl you test my patience
With all these seductive photographs and all these one off vacations
You've been taking
Clearly a lot for me to take in
It don't make sense
Young East African Girl, you too busy fucking with your other man
I was trying to put you on game, put you on a plane
Take you and your mama to the motherland
I could do it, maybe one day
When you figure out you're gonna need someone
When you figure out it's all right here in the city
And you don't run from where we come from
That sound like poetic justice, poetic justice
You were so new to this life but God damn you got adjusted
I mean I write poems in these songs, dedicated to the fun sex
Your natural hair and your soft skin, and your big ass in that sundress (ooh!)
Good God, what you doing that walk for?
When I see that thing move, I just wish we would fight less
And we would talk more
And they say communication save relations, I can tell
But I can never right my wrongs unless I write them down for real
P.S

[Hook]

[Verse 3: Kendrick Lamar]
Every time I write these words they become a taboo
Making sure my punctuation curve, every letter is true
Living my life in the margin and that metaphor was proof
I'm talking poetic justice, poetic justice
If I told you that a flower bloomed in a dark room, would you trust it?
I mean you need to hear this
Love is not just a verb, it's you looking in the mirror
Love is not just a verb, it's you looking for it, maybe
Call me crazy, We can both be insane
A fatal attraction is common
And what we have common is pain
I mean you need to hear this
Love is not just a verb and I can see power steering
Sex drive when you swerve, I want that interference
It's coherent, I can hear it, mmhmm
That's your heartbeat
It either caught me or it called me, mmhmm
Breathe slow and you'll find gold mines in these lines
Sincerely, yours truly
And right before you go blind
P.S

Soundtrack | 10.23.12 | Beach Dr.

Tonight's soundtrack is beyond fitting. Tonight, a dream came true. I got to experience Oddisee on a whole different level, LIVE. And it was amazing. If I could whip up the perfect day in my mind, it would involve Beach Drive blasting, in a convertible, driving through Cali (maybe heading to Tahoe).

De La Soul - Eye Know

It seems that I go through periods where I really know what I want to do in life and then slowly, overtime, I lose sight of the big dream and start making excuses. Forcing me to start from square 1. All. Over. Again. So unproductive. A lot of it comes from being inspired and many times, if not most times, I’m inspired through my interactions with people in my life. Specifically, my love life. Being the huge hopeless romantic that I am, I often try to create a movie in my mind. And every movie needs a great soundtrack to match it.

Today, the soundtrack to my life is De La Soul’s – Eye Know.

What I love about this song is that, according to www.whosampled.com, 7 albums were sampled. 7! Including this gem:

Oddisee

I don't know where to begin when I describe my fascination, respect, and slightly unhealthy obsession with Oddisee. I wasn't his first fan by any means. When I first heard of him, I didn't give him a chance. Why? I'm really not sure. Maybe I wasn't ready to be inspired by his music. Maybe I wasn't his "type" of listener. Maybe. When I finally gave "People Hear What They See" a fighting chance my in ranking list, I was, simply mesmerized. The motivating lyrics instantly captured my attention. The jazz/soul/boom bap-atic melodies are raw and blend perfectly with the story and the chorus. This album is easily in my top 5 categories of all time. I hope it ends up in your top 5 as well. This is why I luvhiphop.

Deliver the Word - War

Today I heard the Gang Starr - Betrayal beat in the song "Deliver the Word" by War on my friend's blog. I love Gang Starr so this was a pleasant connection to make and has been added to my record collection list.

Nas - Life is Good (Album)

After my first rough listen to Nas' "Life is Good" album, I can't seem to get enough of two songs.

Cherry Wine featuring the late, great Amy Winehouse, has this jazzy, old-school, feel with relatable lyrics.
Yes I'm alone/And I realize that when I get home/I wanna go through my red and my cherry

(Produced by Salaam Remi)

The second song, Stay, produced by No I.D., embodies soul - from the melodic sax, to the deep and raw lyrics.

Elzhi - Blue Widow

I can't say I've been a fan of Elzhi since the days of Slum Village, I'll admit, I listened to them without knowing Elzhi was a member, only to find out about 6-8 months ago. Give me a break - I'm still learning the history of hip hop!

But, the minute I heard him on Black Milk's "Album of the Year", I became a fan. Shortly after the release of that album, Elzhi release Elmatic (a remake of Nas' Illmatic) and I was in love. It's been minute since he's released anything new until this!! He's such a great lyricists and the beats are always on point. I'm excited to see what else he has up his sleeve and hopefully I get the opportunity to catch him on tour!

Yuna - Live Your Life

This song could not speak to more than at this moment. New focus. New direction. Dreams become my reality.

Find your light
Don’t hide from what you are
And rise before you fall
And hope for something more
Live if you really want to
Live if you really want to

All my life I’ve been looking for something amazing
It’s almost like I’ve been stargazing
The sky is right above me
We were meant for something bigger than this
Don’t ever try to dismiss yourself cause you don’t have to

Find your light
Don’t hide from what you are
And rise before you fall
And hope for something more
Live if you really want to
Live if you really want to

All my life my dreams just seemed so far away
And now it’s like they’re here to stay
I hold it close to me
We were meant for something bigger than this
Don’t ever try to dismiss yourself cause you don’t have to

Happy Birthday Love Letter

Today ended up being one of my worst-best birthdays ever. Thank you to every one that showed me love. The love is appreciated and returned back xoxox!
And Big-Ups to NY and Hip Hop. I just ended my night with Mobb Deep, Rich Medina, Black Thought, Omar (from the Wire), and so many more. But the best part, Yassin Bey/MOS DEF coming on stage free-stylin 75-bars, and finally hearing "Yassin Bey" sound like how Mos Def should alway sound.
Respect.

Fashawn - Sunny CA

I've been dreaming of Sunny SF for months now and finally we get a chance to meet.  Listening to this song makes me want to move there.  I need to see Fashawn live too.

Thinking of a Master Plan...

Feb. 14th and here I am 2 months into the new year, with a resolution (in writing) on my blog to be more active on here and it's only the second time I'm writing on here.  But it's an ominous day.
Over the past 3 weeks there has been a shift in energy (legit hippie behavior) and it seems like things are falling into place.

The soundtrack to this part of my life is the "Paid in Full" soundtrack.  "Seven Minutes of Madness" to be more specific.  Music really is a passion of mine. I've been sitting on a Master Plan that could potentially be a huge stepping stone to a career that would allow me to deal with music on a daily basis and get paid for it.

Today baby steps were made and I'm going to give my love 110% attention over the next several weeks...please send me your good vibes :)
