My exposure to Teena Marie came towards the end of her music career. I'm not sure which free internet radio provider actually recommended Lady T, but I heard "I'm Still In Love" (while deeply in love) and like all the songs I’m impressed with, I played it continuously. The more I heard the song, the more I wanted to understand who Teena Marie was as an artist. I found such songs as “Portuguese Love” and “I Need Your Lovin’” and realized this woman could BLOW (pause).
I always wanted to see her live but wasn’t proactive in finding shows in my areas or finding someone to accompany me.
Fresh Outlook: Attend more live shows
RIP to a woman who opened my eyes to 80’s/90’s R&B music.

De La Soul - Rock Co. Kane Flow
I was recently asked to name the best live performance I have seen to date. The performance that sticks in my mind like rice is De La Soul peformaning Rock Co. Kane Flow live at the Trocadero in Philly. Shit just below my mind. Here are a group of 40 year old men giving literally everything they got before dipping out and introducing Mos Def. Take a peek at the second link (check the 2:20 mark) to see what I mean. The vibe of crowd, energy of De La, and the teaser performance left me wanting more.
